El músico estadounidense Lenny Kravitz interpretará en el cine a una leyenda de la música soul, Marvin Gaye, asesinado a los 44 años por su propio padre. El filme estará centrado en los últimos años del cantante norteamericano.
Para Kravitz, de 48 años, será su primer rol protagónico en cine. El músico ya tuvo varias apariciones en películas, como en la taquillera "The Hunger Games", y una breve escena en "Zoolander", de Ben Stiller.
Janis Gaye, la segunda esposa de Marvin Gaye, dijo que se siente "muy escéptica" respecto a llevar la vida de su marido a la pantalla grande.
La película será dirigida por Julie Temple, quien realizó el filme de los Sex Pistols, "The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle" y la musical "Glastonbury", entre otras.
La película girará en torno a los últimos años de Gaye, quien vivió en Londres en los comienzos de los años '80, cuando tenía problemas con el alcohol y las drogas, y se vio envuelto en dificultades por no pagar impuestos.
Gaye finalmente logró reducir su dependencia de las drogas cuando se trasladó a Ostend, Bélgica.
La vida de Gaye terminó en medio de una tragedia. Tras hundirse nuevamente en las drogas, el artista se refugió en casa de sus padres en Los Angeles. El 1 de abril de 1984, un día antes de cumplir 45 años, durante una discusión con su padre, éste le pegó dos disparos y lo mató.
Su padre, un predicador, alegó defensa propia ya que Marvin lo había agredido a golpes.
Lenny Kravitz está trabajando además en un nuevo álbum, denominado "Negrophilia". "Es muy funky, muy, muy crudo", adelantó el guitarrista y cantante a Billboard.
"(El disco) 'Black And White' fue muy producido. Si bien es muy natural y orgánico, es un álbum muy producido. Ese era el modo en el que estaba en ese tiempo", agregó. "Pero 'Negrophilia' es muy crudo, un álbum filoso".
El cantante de "Mama Said" dijo que está "tratando de finalizar el disco", pero que no tiene idea de "cuándo eso ocurrirá". "Me imagino que todo tendrá su tiempo. Hay que tratarlo como a una botella de vino; se tiene que hacer en este momento, pero no estará listo por algunos años".
"Me siento confortable trabajando de ese modo", señaló el músico nacido en Nueva York, que ganó el premio Grammy a la Mejor Interpretación Masculina de Rock durante cuatro años seguidos, entre 1999 y 2002.
